The Little Things… A Journey Through May

One of my passions in life is to take time to enjoy  and celebrate “the little things.”   How often we feel rushed in our busy lives – running here and there, doing this, doing that, crossing items off lists and adding new ones even faster!  This is one of those seasons for me.  It’s times like this I must remind myself to b.r.e.a.t.h.e…  to stop and see the beauty all around me…. to appreciate the things that delight my five senses, feed my soul,  and take me away from that frantic state of mind to a place of peace and calmness.  So this month, it is my desire to share with you some of the little things that bring me joy!
Today’s photograph is that of a cardinal’s nest just a couple of feet from my back window.  I had tired of  two wire birdcages being in the house, so on a whim, moved them outside to some plant hooks.  A few days later, I witnessed a female cardinal beginning to build her nest there.  She looked a little perplexed, as the tiny twigs kept falling out between the wires.  The next day, I noticed that she had found bits of a paper towel on her travels, and had lined the cage with them, keeping those first precarious – but oh, so important – twigs in place.  The nest slowly took shape.  She and her mate are now taking turns watching and sitting.  I interrupted their routine one day to take a few pictures.  They didn’t seem to mind so much….

Follow Your Passions and See Where They Might Lead…. Senior Photography, Rowlett High School, Texas

Elizabeth is a young woman whose future just beckons her!  She has such a broad range of interests that will serve her well and open the door to many more adventures.  Let’s see….. She has a strong background in art and photography, has cared for a cow named Erin in FFA for the past two years, is active in ministries, and plays the sousaphone –  just to name a few!    Together, Elizabeth, her mom, her friend Meghan, Erin the cow, AND I enjoyed the fun spontaneity that always occurs in senior sessions.  Love Elizabeth’s spirit!

A Very Special Session – Family Portrait Photography, Dallas

Meet Ella.  Amazing, smart, intuitive, spunky, delightful Ella.  Ella, who adores bling of all kinds, especially tiaras.  (She is, after all, a true princess – a daughter of the King!)  Meet Ella, who is a loving daughter and sweet big sister.  Ella, whose smile melts the hearts of all who meet her.  Ella, who is brave and strong in ways far beyond her tender eight years.  Ella, who is fighting cancer.

My husband and I have had the privilege of getting to know Ella in our Sunday School class.   We’re the “teachers,” but I suspect she has some very important things that SHE can teach us all.  It was my privilege yesterday to photograph her, her wonderful mother, JD, and her darling little brother, Edjer.

This sweet family are loved and supported by so many, and I know they are deeply grateful.  Together, they face the impossible with tremendous faith and courage.  I would ask my readers to please send up prayers on their behalf.  Ella is traveling back to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital now and will have surgery to remove a new growth on Friday of this week.  Once she’s back on her feet, I hear there’s a trip to Disney World in their future!  Thank you for giving me the privilege of photographing your sweet family!

Autumn Joy! Fine Art Photography, Dallas, Texas

Autumn has always been my favorite season.  There’s nothing like the glow of warm colors, the crisp freshness in the air, and the crunch of leaves underfoot.  And of course, here in Dallas, there’s sweet relief from the heat of summer!  There’s not a lot of color here – yet – but this morning, I took a few minutes to slow down and enjoy what was right outside my door.  Just wanted to share!  Photography has taught me to observe closely and appreciate the simple things.  That’s a pretty wonderful thing, don’t you agree?
