One of my passions in life is to take time to enjoy and celebrate “the little things.” How often we feel rushed in our busy lives – running here and there, doing this, doing that, crossing items off lists and adding new ones even faster! This is one of those seasons for me. It’s times like this I must remind myself to b.r.e.a.t.h.e… to stop and see the beauty all around me…. to appreciate the things that delight my five senses, feed my soul, and take me away from that frantic state of mind to a place of peace and calmness. So this month, it is my desire to share with you some of the little things that bring me joy!
Today’s photograph is that of a cardinal’s nest just a couple of feet from my back window. I had tired of two wire birdcages being in the house, so on a whim, moved them outside to some plant hooks. A few days later, I witnessed a female cardinal beginning to build her nest there. She looked a little perplexed, as the tiny twigs kept falling out between the wires. The next day, I noticed that she had found bits of a paper towel on her travels, and had lined the cage with them, keeping those first precarious – but oh, so important – twigs in place. The nest slowly took shape. She and her mate are now taking turns watching and sitting. I interrupted their routine one day to take a few pictures. They didn’t seem to mind so much….
